We are fully invested in policies and procedures and systems. We appreciate and nurture creativity and innovation, and we expect you to follow the rules. We expect you to assist in revising and implementing the systems. If you don’t think that’s possible, please don’t apply. You will also need to know how to figure things out on your own and be able to creatively solve problems and come up with solutions. You must be able to think on your feet and make smart decisions. Your ability to listen to what you are being told and ask follow-up questions is very important. If you cannot listen, understand, evaluate, and interview someone, this is not the job for you.

If, while you have been reading this, you were distracted by the buzz of your cellphone or had to check a Facebook alert, this might not be the job for you. If you think showing up for work 10 minutes late is no big deal, or if you need take more than 2 coffee, smoke, or cell phone breaks during the workday, this job is not for you. If you want to spend time Monday through Friday surfing the internet, Facebooking, or chatting on the phone and still expect to be paid, this is not the job for you. If this offends you, this is not the job for you.

You must be an optimistic, positive person. Our office does not do well with toxic people or drama queens, gossipers, gossiping, or victims. You will not fit in here if you even think that you may fit into one of those categories of negative people.

If you are the type of person who chats on your cell while you are in the check-out line face-to-face with a cashier, this is not the job for you.

If you are one of those people who somehow seeks to frequently get sick on Thursday night, Friday morning, or Sunday night … so you can come in late or take a sick day on Fridays and Mondays, this really is not the job for you. We know and understand the difference between “sick” and sick. We give reasonable PTO. We know how to spot a pattern. If you get “sick” when it is convenient for you and don’t care what your long weekend does to the rest of the team, please do not apply for this position.

Can you tell that we want someone who knows how to play on a team? You will be working in a small office, with a group who is all accountable to one another. We are strong believers in the team approach and our office is a team environment, so if you are not a team player, this is not the job for you. If you think you can fake being a team player, you can’t. Don’t try. Just accept that this is not the job for you.

You cannot “talk down” to anyone that you deal with in our office. You need to be able to talk to people (all people…including employees, clients, visitors, salespeople, servers, the public, doctors, and people at the insurance company) in a manner that is polite, professional, well-spoken, and that puts them at ease. Most importantly, you MUST have compassion when dealing with our clients.

To be perfectly honest, we expect you to give us 100% when you are at work. You owe it to our clients, your co-workers, and yourself to do the best job that you can. You need to be willing to do what it takes to get the job done right the first time. In our practice, getting it done right the first time for our clients is very important and we need everyone to work with this goal in mind. If this seems too much to ask of you, don’t apply for this job.

If you think your paralegal certificate and years of work experience mean that you are too good or too valuable or too important to make coffee, stuff envelopes, or fill in for the receptionist, this is absolutely, positively not the job for you.

To put it simply, we want you to do good work and rally around our clients to help solve their legal problems. We want people who want to make a positive difference in our little piece of the world.

If you think our office sounds like a horrible, no-fun, no-good place to be, this is not the job for you. If this sounds harsh or unfair, then this is not the job for you. You should stop reading this ad right now.

If, on the other hand, you realize that the work environment we have created will help you get your job done efficiently, while working with people who love their job, and help you find a path to achieve your personal, professional, and financial goals, then you are the type of candidate we would like to meet.

If you are hired, you will be part of a wonderful team of people who work hard to get the job done right the first time and take pride in the work that they do. You will be part of a team that is rewarded for hard work.

With regard to compensation, it is negotiable based upon experience and is subject to review after 120 days. In addition, we offer a 401(k) after 6 months of employment. We also offer a bonus plan that rewards you when you reach goals and gives you some control over what you can earn working for our firm. If we succeed, you will too!

Is this going to be an easy job? No. It might be one of the biggest challenges of your life. But it is our belief that anything really great is worth working for, and that our greatest growth comes from our biggest challenges. You will be challenged. You will have fun. You will be compensated. And you will help our clients.

If you have gotten this far, you are truly an exceptional person (most people stopped reading this ad a long time ago). If you are thinking about applying it means that you are ready for a challenge and want to be part of a team where your hard work and efforts are recognized and rewarded.
